“THE MATEROCCON”

Matero meaning in Latin “material” and “wood”. Occo refers to both the hollow (gap), and to the primitive instrument used to make them in the soil, a type of hoe. That is the origin of the word “Materoccon”, the creation of the Asturian sculptor Gonzalo García, who pays tribute to his homeland by adding a final “n” to the name, from his home city, Gijón.

To bring this project to life, a giant foot emerging from the soil, the sculptor did not doubt for a moment which material would provide him with the best technical and aesthetic performance.
