The Europa Conference Centre (Europa Conference and Exhibition Centre) in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, recently underwent major renovation to improve the building's environmental credentials and expand its capacity. Originally built in 1989, renovation work was started at the centre in 2011 involving the use of sustainable building materials, including Accoya®.
The environmental renovation of the centre was developed to create a carbon neutral building, efficient in the use of resources, including construction materials and the use of water and energy.
To clad the facades of the building, brushed Accoya® profiles of 45 x 25 mm and up to 4,200 mm long were used in three vertical sections of increasing density. Accoya® was also required to cover a round staircase at the main entrance of the conference centre. The main facade of the building has a living plant facility that uses more than 33,000 plants of 70 different species growing over a total area of 1,492 m2.
The wood was covered with a grey coating of Cettol WF 771 - Sikkens AkzoNobel.
