Le Dôme winery

Saint-Émilion,an iconic location in the world of wine, is the birthplace of some of the most representative Bordeaux wines. In this pastoral enclave, Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Le Dôme winery was built by the Foster + Partners studio.

One of the essential prerequisites of the project was to create a building that was true to the landscape of the site, valued for its very nature, , full of natural, Roman and medieval legacy. In this regard, the base of the building is below ground to minimise its height and not disturb the horizon line of the area.

Precisely to create the highest and most visible part, the roof, a material was chosen with as much winemaking essence as it has French soul: oak.Made with : VIGAM: the only oak glulam in the world with the CE marking for structural use, ,the roofs of Le Dôme (literally, the dome) are subtly and purposefully tilted, with the objective of sensorial integration with the rolling hills of the environment.

The result is a pleasing example of intelligence, respect, elegance and good taste.Yet another example of creative and sustainable architecture that certified glulam woodis able to provoke.
